 The Amarnath Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage for Hindus to the Amarnath Cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, India, where a naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam is worshipped. The yatra takes place annually, usually during July–August (Shravan month), and involves trekking through high-altitude Himalayan terrain.

  3. Pissu Top

  5. Mahagunas Top – 4,270 m

  6. Panjtarni – 3,450 m

  7. Amarnath Cave – 3,888 m

Features:

  • Scenic and gradual ascent

  • Preferred by elderly and those looking for a longer, spiritual trek

  • Traditional and well-facilitated route

  • Total Distance: ~14 km (one way)

  • Duration: 1–2 days (possible in a single day for fit pilgrims)

Route Details:

  1. Baltal (Start point) – 2,743 m

  2. Domail

  3. Barari Marg

  4. Sangam

  5. Amarnath Cave – 3,888 m

Features:

  • Much steeper and more physically demanding

  • Popular with younger or fitter pilgrims

  • Possible to return the same day

  • Helicopter services available from Baltal to Panjtarn
